ABOUT DALE BURKE
Dale Burke has been in the music and entertainment field since the age of fourteen. An accomplished trumpeter and pianist, he also sings, composes, arranges, con-ducts and records. He appeared with many of the leading big bands in the late 40s and 50s. Dale had his own Show Group on the road and appeared in many of the top night clubs, TV shows, and hotel show rooms throughout the US, Canada, the Bahamas, and South America. He was Music and Entertainment Director at the Langford Resort Hotel, Winter Park, Florida, from 1969 to 1973, where he played and conducted shows, performing with his own quartet and big band for conventions, stage shows and concerts. In the early 70s Dale was Arranger, Conductor and Musical Director for the Hilton Hotel chain in Nevada, headquartered in Las Vegas. Besides many shows and benefits at the Las Vegas Hilton, Dale has played the Flamingo Hilton, the St. Regis Hotel in NYC, San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel, the Caribe Hotel in Puerto Rico, plus the Johnny Carson and Merv Griffin TV shows.
Returning to Florida in the mid 70s, Dale lived in the Orlando area, where he formed his own Dale Burke Orchestra and smaller jazz groups, St Louis Jazz and the Blue Notes. He was also Conductor and Musical Director of the Central Florida Pops Orchestra and Chorus.
In 2005, tiring of the Orlando traffic and hurricanes, Dale and his wife, JoAnn, relocated to Spartanburg. Having been Director of the Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble for two years, Dale recently resigned. Since moving to Spartanburg, Dale has reformed his Saint Louis Jazz (six to eight piece group) with some of the finest local musicians. He also formed his duo, trio & quartet groups as well as playing piano singles or with other musical groups. He continues to write and arrange for his groups and many clients.
